5 Tactics To Drive Traffic From StumbleUpon
StumbleUpon is a hot social site that is becoming increasingly popular for blogs and sites to use as an avenue to dramatically increase potential traffic. It can prove to be an even higher success than Digg, especially of late.
As with other social community sites, it’s important to be an active user by making friends and contributing new discoveries. Here are a few other tactics that could increase your stumble popularity.
1) Use relevant tags
It’s important to pick the proper tags as it will increase relevant stumbles found either using the search function on their website or toolbar.
2) Choose the right topic
After choosing a site to submit, you are asked to pick a topic to submit it under. Picking the right topic can make or break your Stumble. If you submit the page under a wrong or unrelated topic then people who stumble may be less likely to give it a thumbs up. Opt for general topics versus specific keywords to broaden the search.
3) Receive Help From Your Friends, Family, Network Buddies
StumbleUpon allows you to send your stumbles directly to a friend, whom would be highly likely to enjoy your site and give you a thumbs up – although don’t abuse it!
4) Use Groups and Forums
There are groups covering just about any topic. You are allowed to join up to 63 groups. Some groups allow you the ability to post relevant links to share within the group, depending on the setting created by the moderator.
5) Highlight your blog in StumbleUpon profile
This is very easy. Enter your blog URL as your website address and it will be displayed above your image on the main page of your profile. You can write a short blurb about yourself and include your website with a link.
Taking care of the little details like submitting your pages properly, could give you that extra edge and help you gain more traffic with even more links to your site. But of course, the content itself has to be interesting and useful – and sometimes the more entertaining the better!

I’ve noticed that stumbleupon has a bug that they don’t seem to address. Since a day or 2, it’s about impossible to rate a page or add one, because a blank page turns up. More people have been complaining about it, but nothing is changing. It’s extremely annoying!
Michael – That seems to happen when using FeedBurner’s service (bookmarking buttons). Are you using the add-on for the toolbar? I used to have that very same issue, until I relied on using the thumbs up/down 100% of the time.
I’ve tried stumbleupon earlier, but now for some reason I cannot get it to load. Do I really need to have their browser installed? I am happy with my Google browser.
Michelle – It’s an add-on, so it shouldn’t interfere with your google browser.
This is interesting. I’ve never thought of joining SU, but now that you’ve mentioned it, I went ahead, joined and I’m kinda glad I did. Thanks!
No problem Bill :)
I’ve justed started to use StumbleUpon and I find this tips very useful.
Thanks.
Thanks Susan – I’m a bit wary of stumble upon. I tried to join, knowing nothing about it and didn’t mean invite friends meant that it was going to email my whole address book.
I will definitely give it a go again now that you’ve explained how to use it.
Thanks for this article – I’ve been stumbling for a while now, but your tips have made me think about how I could better use the service…
Thumbs up!
Catherine – I’m happy that you feel more comfortable with using Stumble.
Natasha – Thank you! :)
Do you submit everyone of your posts as you publish them, only some from time to time, or only your site?
Crazykinux – Actually, per Stumble’s terms you shouldn’t stumble your own pages, instead encourage others to stumble your site.
Thanks for these tips. I have started using SU very recently and its amazing. It drives in so many vistors to my blog.
Meanwhile I just had a question – Is it possbile to get my post submitted to StumbleUpon automatically everytime I write a new post?
Cheers
