Ways To Increase Awareness of Your Site

There are many millions of web surfers checking out websites, blogs and combing through search engines looking for info. What are the chances they will find your site on their own without a little help?

And what if you are receiving a fair percentage of visitors each day, but how many of those are coming back to re-visit your site?

Well, there are a few ways to increase your traffic, your reputation and respect with other webmasters within your niche community.

Join Blog Communities

This is one of the most common way for bloggers and webmasters to communicate with the readers and other authors. It usually requires little marketing effort and at the same time, is a wonderful way to make more new friends and invite people to read your blog. Communities include, MyBlogLog, Spicy Page, Bumpzee, Blog Cave and Blog Catalog.

Allow Social Bookmarking

Surprisingly not all blogs offer bookmarking services for their readers which can be a mistake as this can be a good source to create awareness. Bookmarking your site can deliver visitors that may visit only once and not come back, but each of those visitors are an opportunity that someone may post a url into a forum delivering even more traffic and possibly more readers.

Commenting

Leaving constructive comments and/or starting a conversation within a fellow bloggers site is a great way of creating awareness of yourself but also helping the network. Never leave short sentences like “nice one” or “good blog”, as such short answers make you appear as a ghost blogger.

Share the Stumble Love

StumbleUpon can bring lots of great traffic and bring awareness to your site. Be an active stumbler by stumbling other pages and have others stumble yours. The more stumbles, the more traffic you’ll receive. Last month alone, I received over 30,000 visits from StumbleUpon for one of my new sites.

Yahoo Answers

Yahoo Answers is a great place to connect with individuals that could be potential readers to your site. Ask smart questions and leave well thought out answers – time to time you can drop your url into the source area to gain some readers. Although, don’t do this too much as you could be marked as spam.

Join Forums

There are some great forums online that offer plenty of great information but also offer a great opportunity to connect with the online community. Some of my favorites are: Digital Point, Warrior and Money Maker Group.

Have you also found success through one of these avenues?

  1. For me, I think it’s hard to stay active in forums…I don’t know, it just seems like it takes a lot of time (that I wish I had). I agree with you about SU. I received some decent quality traffic last month for a few of my posts!

I don’t really know how SU works though. I’ve stumbled posts, but how do you get it so people actually “stumble” upon them? The more friends you have, the more thumbs up it’ll get and be shared with the SU community?

Great summary of ideas to try out for anyone who has a website. One other thing I would add to the list is getting involved in social networking sites such as Facebook. These sites offer lots of opportunities to meet new people and drive interest to your website.

Also, I would like to add a plug for our website http://www.askpedia.com . We’re a knowledge marketplace powered by Questions and Answers. You can help others with important questions and showcase your expertise to drive traffic to your personal website.

That’s a nice site, thanks for sharing Jan. What’s the average payout? In comparison, DayTipper pays $3/tip. =D
    Thank you for stopping by.

I like some (most) of your ideas to generate traffic.

It would be nice if someone were to create a killer list of Affiliate Marketing oriented FORUMS.

The Warrior Forum is one of my most visited. Lots of good info and experienced IMers convene here.

    Cheers,
