8 Keyword Suggestion Tools

Finding and using the best keywords is an important part of search engine optimization. Using some of the following tools can help find keywords that have little competition as well as words that visitors would actually search for.

Here are 8 of my personal favorite tools:

  1. Google Adwords Keyword Tool - “Site related keywords” can help find phrases most likely used by competitors. Adwords Link
  2. Google Trends - Is great to use after you discover a few good keywords. This tool will display onto a chart the search volume of each keyword researched. Google Link Hot Trend Link
  3. Yahoo Buzz - It’s similar to Google Trends and has a handy log of top movers/leaders by subject. Yahoo Link
  4. MS AdLabs Search Funnels - An unique tool to view how people search particular keywords to observe their search behavior. MS AdLabs Link
  5. SpyFu - Want to know what your competitors are up to? Type in a keyword and a list of websites using that particular keyword phrase on Google will pop up…including the average price paid. You can also type in domains to view a list of keywords that the domain uses on Google Adwords. SpyFu Link
  6. NicheBot - Lists keywords and phrases by count, predicted counts by using information from wordtracker. Niche Bot Link
  7. Lycos week’s top 50 - Top searches from Lycos on a weekly basis. Lycos Link
  8. SEObook Google Suggest Keyword Suggestion Scrapper Tool - This tool grabs Google Suggest to display results. SEO Book Link

Great list Susan! I couldn’t help but notice Wordtracker not being on the list. Is that because of the fees or because of the quality of the searches? Just curious.

    Stumbled…

Dana - NicheBot actually uses information from wordtracker and adds a bit more info to the results..which I like. That’s why I left off wordtracker itself.

This is indeed a perfect list you have come out with. I am currently using Google Adwords Keywords Tool to do my analysis and they seem to get the job done.

Haven’t really experimented on the others though, maybe after this I would have to pay them a visit.

    Thanks once again :)

I’m sure there will also be many more wordpress keyword plug ins now that version 2.3 will have more keywording options in the posts.

[...] Research Keywords - The last 5 years would have been a great time to focus on the mortgage industry and ways to refinance or upgrade your home. Mortgage companies were throwing out cash to get those leads. How do I know? I personally bought and managed lead flow/budgeting for top companies. Typically I paid on average $37-60 per lead from affiliate companies…per click, it’s really competitive…and can be about $15 per click with Adsense depending on keyword of course. Although this market isn’t as strong anymore. Due to the housing market, foreclosures are becoming hot and I would expect demand for this keyword to grow if the bad news keeps coming in. Phoenix, AZ just experienced a 50% drop in housing prices…if this trend hits other regions it’s gonna get nasty. Check out of a list of easy to use keyword tools here. [...]
