Comment Spam - Need Extra Protection?

Enough of the Comment Spam!!! It’s a good thing I have the Akismet Wordpress plugin activated or I wouldn’t be very happy.
Recently I’ve received a large increase in the amount of comment spam, mostly from realty sites (hey, I know the housing market is having it rough, but really…) and some guy named Daniel K (Hey you, I’m tired of seeing your name). I guess I shouldn’t mind so much since its been caught, but seeing the same ones over and over again gets pretty annoying especially since the spam has picked up.
So, I did a little research to look for additional ways to protect the comments. There are a couple of options I found: reCAPTCHA or Math Comment Spam Protection. Both seem to be worthy options, but I’m not sure I like either of them. I know the reason for using captchas but for me, I’m actually annoyed when I have to use them.
Are you currently using additional spam protection on your site? And if so, is it working?
From what I read on Terence Chang’s site, he’s having success with implementing spam protection. I may just need to install one of them.

why do you need more protection? Are those comments spams making it through your Akismat spam plugin or what?

They aren’t. It’s just another step to remove- having to comb through the spam before deleting all. I haven’t decided if I will install it just yet.
