I usually ask if a blog has been added to any directories when blogging beginners ask for additional ways to improve traffic for free. Registering your blog in directories or rating sites will increase your viability to potential readers.

The blog directory Blogskinny is pretty new and has been aggressively building its directory by giving out opportunities for free advertising on their site.
There are a few ways to get free advertising with BlogSkinny:
1) Register your blog with BlogSkinny.
2) Suggest a directory that is not currently listed to receive 1000 free impressions for your blog. To do so, send an e-mail to Blogskinny.
3) To help get the word out, write a post about the new Directory of Blog Directories (using the exact phrase at least twice), linking to BlogSkinny for 1,000 free advertising impressions.
4) Register for an affiliate membership and get your blog listed as a Featured Blog.
Registering or suggesting a site is fairly quick to do. It can get pretty redundant so I would recommend choosing avenues that will enable you to list your blog on as many directories quickly and for free, if possible. Also, listing your blog on communities like MyBlogLog is an excellent starting point as they are many profiles blooming in this active online community.
I can attest to blogskinny helping drive traffic to my blog. I have seen the search referral in the stats where a user has clicked on a search result with blogskinny’s url that directs them to my blog.
I also participated in their programs and did get to be on the top page of their site for an entire day ( in a rotation ).
