Traffic Sources That Rock

I try to avoid looking at stats daily and reserve Google Analytics for monthly checks. Reviewing the stats for the last 30 days reveals some interesting trends for top traffic sources. I’ve steadily maintained a good amount of volume from a variety of sources.

Who did well? Here were my top 20 traffic sources during the past 30 days:

  1. StumbleUpon
  2. Direct Traffic
  3. Google – Organic
  4. MyBlogLog
  5. Smashing Magazine
  6. Silent Bits
  7. Enkay’s Blog
  8. Facebook
  9. John Chow
  10. Marketing Deviant
  11. Blue Jar
  12. Cash For Comments
  13. Shaun Low
  14. Design Walker
  15. Blogging The Movie
  16. Blogosquare
  17. zm0ney
  18. Blog Rush
  19. MySpace
  20. Technorati

I also just checked my MyBlogLog account and I was happy to find that I currently have 297 members – not too shabby for a new blog that started in July. Its number is almost reaching one of my other blogs, Got2BeGreen, which has about 365 members.

How to increase your traffic?

It definitely helps to be involved with other blog sites by commenting and networking with fellow bloggers, especially the ones within the same niche.

As far as MyBlogLog, one great way to gain readers by visiting profiles to leave a sort of ‘cookie crumb’ trail. The author will see you stopped by and will usually return the kind visit, resulting in a prospective new contact or member to your site.

You can take further advantage of this opportunity, by focusing on a specific niche and checking out all the members within that similar community.  :)

I’m totally agree with you Susan, MBL is one of the top networking community to gain traffics to your website..

As far of that, commenting to other peoples blog and sharing them while keep networking with your commentators is such a good advantage for your website traffic ranking and at the same time you’ll learn new things that you probably don’t know much about it.

    Nice one there Susan!

    Quick question.
Is there a particular reason why you linked to some of the traffic sources and not to others?

    Thanks

It is surprising where the traffic comes from isn’t it?

Keep up the good work on the site

These are some great tips, Susan. What if you can’t find the right community at MBL? “The author will see you stopped by and will usually return the kind visit.” But I’ve left about 20 comments to date on just a few different blogs, nevertheless my subscriptions actually went down a bit, and I still have not received any additional comments [excluding your own, Susan. Thank you for that, I know you care].

Link Love – I tried to link to fellow bloggers who would enjoy some traffic. Shaun Low’s site has been sold as of recently, so I didn’t provide a link. Cash For Comments has been shut down to focus more on Blogging the Movie… :)

I’m looking at the stats you’ve provided: is that a 1200 mark you’ve reached on Sep 28th? How long did it take for you to reach your first 500? 1000? How many blogs do you have? How ‘active’ are you [excluding this blog b/c I know that you're posting nearly every day]?

  8. Susan says:

Hi Bill – I was averaging about 300 per day, until August 20th in which it jumped to over 1000..

I have 5 active blogs, about 6 more pending to be launched. I’ve slowed down a bit on this site because a couple of the sites are bringing in some good results. I try to update this site everyday or every other day (except weekends), another site I update 7 days a week, the third site I update every 2-3 days, and the last two maybe once a week. It all depends on the niche.

    :)

  9. Bill says:

Geezy Louisy…5 blogs!? 6 pending?! 300/day? What happened on 08/20? What are your niches?

  10. Susan says:

:) Medicine, Green tech, Real Estate, etc. They are my interests…I have a biology degree but have much experience in online marketing when I didn’t pursue my science background as a career…played around in the housing market and was even employed with a huge mortgage company. I do this full time, and I don’t plan to stop! I’m having too much fun!

  11. GnomeyNewt says:

Thanks for the link love! You have some great stats there. I have got great results by just visiting other blogs, but now that I’ve not been online too much these days I can see it decreasing. So staying active too will help for sure.

  12. Bill says:

Alright, keeping these comments topic-related, I’ve got to say, great post and lots of useful info here!

  13. Zmoney says:

Susan I’ve told ya a million times that I love your blog ;) Let this be the 1,000,001 time xD I Love your Blog! Glad to help any way I can :D

  14. Susan says:

No problem GnomeyNewt! I know how it goes. It needs constant care, doesn’t it?

    Thanks Zmoney! :)

  15. Tibi Puiu says:

Your traffic looks awesome, especially for a new blog. You should concentrate more on builiding search engine traffic, it’s the best as it’s the most targeted :D

  16. Wow, nice traffic stats there! I’m definitely jealous. :)

I agree that networking is one of the biggest traffic drivers. Commenting and connecting with other bloggers in your niche is key.

Another that you forgot in the “how to increase your traffic” section: Design and icon set! ;)

  17. Susan says:

Deron – I saw that…you got a lot of traffic from that post! :)
