Utilizing Social Media Channels
Social Media Marketing requires a lot of due diligence and research to succeed but can prove to be a very successful avenue that could bring in additional traffic if you can identify the right prospects and targets.
The marketing approach for a website versus a Social Media site like Myspace, involves two different techniques. Websites pull traffic using content, code and linking strategies to pull people to your site through Search Engines. Whereas, a Social Media Site requires a ‘push’ technique to create something of value within your demographic and pushing people to your site to let them know you have something of value for them.
If you have your demographic picked out, there are a few things to keep in mind when marketing your site to internet users of a social media site.
Build A Large Audience - You will need to build an audience for your profile to be used to drive traffic to your site. You can gather in groups (MySpace has a large range of groups covering just about any topic), participate in their forums, networks with others in your industry, seek out your friends of friends as they will usually have similar interests and look up friends of competitors.
Be Social - Leave comments on other people sites. Don’t spam their comment page (you could get banned), but send thoughtful, well thought out nice messages once and while. Maybe offer some tips related to your site’s subject or create a MySpace Group. This also provides an opportunity for you to leave a link.
Be Realistic - Some sites will do better than others, depending on the industry you are in. For MySpace, having a music site will probably perform a lot better than a real estate page.
Keep an Open Mind - You might not see an increase in traffic but you may discover new working relationships or networks you didn’t have before.
The number of social media services are growing very quickly. There are over 21 different types of social media platforms, over 25 different social bookmarking services and a lot more social networking sites. If you can get your foot into one of the many social media arenas, you could hit gold.
